Hold Up Reopens with “Graphic Expansion” 6/12
“Graphic Expansion” is a celebration of 7 new Los Angeles based artists being added to the Hold Up Art roster. From professional to free lance, these 7 artists all have their hands in the world of graphics and media design, shaping the visual landscape of Los Angeles. The show will open Saturday, June 12th, and will close Monday, June 21st. The public opening will take place June 12th, from 7pm-11pm. These 7 young artists will be the first to showcase their art in Hold Up’s new Exhibition Wing, a renovation project that extends Hold Up’s 700 square foot store front into a 2,500 square foot gallery/museum in the heart of Little Tokyo.
The 7 artists to be featured in “Graphic Expansion” are:
Asylm, asylm.com
Sean D’anconia, www.seandanconia.com
Allison Torneros, www.allisontorneros.com
Faith Cavendish, faithcavendish.com
Nick D’attomo, nickdattomo.com
Nanami Cowdroy and, nthread.net
Sam Fuchs and Adam Gray hellamorefunner.com
Though stylistically many of these artists are incredibly unique and individual, when looked at as a group, the show begins to address issues of two dimensionality in art. The super-flat style of D’anconia’s subjects juxtaposed by the rough textural rendering of Torneros’ nudes bring to light different schools of representation and 3D rendering. “Graphic Expansion” engages it’s audience to look at these artists as more than just daytime designers, but individual artists who have found a very specific voice to tell their stories with.
